General Comments
Beach stock design No. 22 marks the end of the (known) early Beach era that featured all oval trays with elaborately decorated rims and a high percentage of still-lifes.  It’s possible that this trend continued beyond No. 22, but there is a gap in numbered designs until No. 44 (Pharaoh’s Horses), so we just do not know.  Of the attributed Beach designs, this marks the last oval design (excepting the oval version of No. 44 produced for Buffalo Brewing) and last elaborate rim matching the main tray design.

The symbolism of the flowers represented in this still-life include friendship (the yellow roses), gratitude and appreciation (the pink roses), and innocence (the daisies).  Not exactly the sort of sentiment that lends itself well to brewery advertising, although we suspect this would have appealed to small retailers, particularly ones primarily serving women (and possibly children).

Size, Shape and Message Placement
Like all of the early Beach tray, we’ve only encountered this design as an oval.  This design is accompanied by the final elaborate rim with flowers that at first glance appear to be something other than rose.  However, after examination we believe these may be meant to be wild roses, which are simpler, with fewer pedals than their cultivated cousins.  We’ve only seen this design twice and both were stock sample without advertising. We would expect any example carrying advertising either to be on the face or printed on the back.

Hager & Price
Another design not included in Hager.  The examples we have encountered were not in a sales context, so we have no pricing data points for this design.  We expect stock samples and non-brewers would only command double figures, but if an example showed up with brewery advertising it would bring strong triple figures or possibly better.
