Listed in the 1900 Tuscarora price list as “No. 9, Oblong, 12 1/2x16 1/2.  Design-purple ground with picture of lady in center, ten printing.”

This is the first “oblong” or large rectangular stock tray Tuscarora/Meek produced.  While used by a few brewers, it was more popular with non-brewers, particularly clothing and fashion stores.  Most examples carry no manufacturer information, not even the stock number, although a few do have the Tuscarora signature.  This tray was not included in Hager’s stock catalog, perhaps because he hadn’t encountered one with Tuscarora printed on it and it is not included in Meek & Beach catalog #12 (which seems to be the only one he had available).

The rim is a faux engraved silver tray design, with the name plate windows, which is consistent on all known examples.  Advertising text can usually be found in these windows, although also occasionally on the face of the tray.  The Virginia Brewing example substitutes bottle images instead of text in the two side windows.

Prices for brewery versions tend to be pretty strong; however, prices for non-brewery versions are on par with other common early stock trays.
