Cerveceria Cuauhtemoc Moctezuma (FEMSA)
Oriziba, Veracruz, Mexico (1890 - Present)
Some excellent info passed on by a Cuauthemoc historian. Thanks so much Carlos J. FEMSA began as Cerveceria Cuauhtemoc in 1890, with brands like Carta Blanca (it's first brand and the oldest beer brand in Mexico), Saturno, Monterrey, Salvator (1893), Estrella (1893), Cuauhtemoc (1905, later called Indio) and Bohemia (1905). So the anniversary was around 1955. Cerveceria Moctezuma dates around 1894 or 1896 with brands like Moctezuma, Siglo XX (1900), later called XX or Dos Equis. Sol (1899) became a Moctezuma brand in 1912 by the adquisition of the small brewery that produced it. Cerveceria Cuauhtemoc bought in 1985 a great stake of Cerveceria Moctezuma, incorporating it totally into the Company in 1988; thus was born Cerveceria Cuauhtemoc Moctezuma. Cerveceria Tecate, brewers of Tecate beer (1944) was adquired by Cerveceria Cuauhtemoc in 1954. Cerveceria Cruz Blanca (Cruz Blanca, Chihuahua, Princesa, Liston Azul) was adquired as well in 1965 by Cerveceria Cuauhtemoc, but the fusion did not took place until 1987. |
