 Comments:

From the Collection of Mark Rogers.  "Mickey Leroy Gilley was an American country music singer and musician.  Although he started out singing straight-up country and western material in the 1970s, Gilley moved towards a more pop-friendly sound in the 1980s, bringing him further success on not just the country charts, but the pop charts as well."  Fun fact:  Jerry Lee Lewis is Mickey's cousin.

Mickey is also famous for his bar Gilley's in Pasadena, TX, made nationally known with the release of the movie Urban Cowboy in the late 1970's.  Gilley's closed in 1989 due to a partnership dispute between Mickey Gilley and co-owner Sherwood Cryer. The building was destroyed in a suspicious fire in 1990.

This tray was most likely a gift shop item in the 1970's & early 1980's - the heyday years for the bar.  Gilley's had their own bottled beer, which was brewed and bottled by Spoetzel Brewery, Inc..

 Comments:

From the Collection of Mark Rogers.   Shiner appears to have been a sponsor of one of Lance Armstrong's Livestrong events (bike rides, runs, general fund raising events), which were held in the late 1990's and early 2000's.  This was the height of his popularity, as he was winning seven Tour de France bicycle races - the Super Bowl of cycling.

The Armstrong Foundation per Wikipedia:  "The Livestrong Foundation is a United States nonprofit organization that provides support for people affected by cancer. The foundation, based in Austin, Texas, was established in 1997 by cancer survivor and former professional road racing cyclist Lance Armstrong, as the Lance Armstrong Foundation.  The Livestrong brand was launched by the foundation in 2003.  Armstrong resigned from the foundation in 2012 after his admission of doping, leading to the rebranding of the entire organization as Livestrong Foundation."

 Comments:

Internet auction image capture.  Shiner Bock was brewed seasonally starting in 1913, but was then made available all year round starting in 1973.  National distribution of Shiner Bock (using the color scheme of this tray) began in 1991, quickly moving it to be their main product.  This image is surprisingly the only version of this tray we have seen as of the authoring of this By Brewer page.
