General
Like the other Thayer floral images this design rarely shows up. The few known examples with advertising include two flour/milling concerns, a small shoe retailer and a bakery. We have not encountered any brewery examples.
For No. 34, the M&B 1903 catalog description says: "Tea Tray No. 34, The Wild Tiger Lily. This flower, indigenous to the soil and climate of our mountain states in the far west, should not be overlooked in any floral collections, for in all Nature’s work we find nothing more marvelous in coloring, nor more delicate of construction.” It appears in the 1903 price list as “No. 34, Wild Tiger Lilies.”

Only tray examples are known, all of which are oval with the low pie shaped rim and rolled edge. The rim features a slightly more complex flower and leaf pattern compared to No. 32 & No. 33 but is still far simpler than contemporary Beach rims. The band surrounding the image is unique to this design and No. 35—it is a wide green band with white “dashes.” Unfortunately, we don’t have any pictures of examples other than unmarked stock trays or one with the text on the back, but we anticipate advertising text would likely have been black and typically printed on the face of the tray.
Hager & Price
Hager does not discuss No. 34 (or any of the affiliated Thayer flower trays), but does include a picture in his catalog. There are not enough data points available to comment on pricing, other than that the few we’ve seen have been relatively low given the scarcity of examples of this design. As noted above, we have not seen any brewery examples, but anticipate that if any show up they are likely to command a high price.
