Bunker Hill
Breweries Boston, Massachusetts |
Comments: The one word which best
describes this tray is "Amazing". The spots in this photograph are simply
glare, as this tray looks like it was just made. This is about as clean as you
can find a Pre-pro tray from the early 1900's. OK , I had to ask a Boston collector why this tray indicates "Boston, Mass." to the left of the dog and on its chest it says in small gold lettering "Bunker Hill Breweries, Charlestown, Mass."? Seems the Brewery was located in Charlestown, which is a suburb of Boston. Straub's says this tray was manufactured in 1906. Another Straub's not so correct piece of information. This Images was copyrighted in 1906 by A.G. Van Norstrand (this can also be seen on the dogs chest), but this does not mean this is when the tray was manufactured. A debate -some say the "PB" on the dogs collar is an abbreviation for "Prize Beauty", others say "Purest and Best". "Purest and Best" is the most likely the correct answer as it was used on other Bunker Hill items. Who cares, this tray is just outstanding and one of the jewels of my collection. |
